Walking in the Snow February 22, 2010 09:33

It’s early in the morning and I have just gotten home from dropping my kids off at pre school. Normally I drive there and drop them off but last week some bloke smashed into the back of our car and it is in the garage. That means getting the bus to the pre school (free bus travel with a pram…Nice) and walking home. That doesn’t sound so bad but today it is minus 21 degrees and a 20 minute walk in that kind of cold is intense. I kind of enjoyed most of it because the sun is very bright, blue skies, no wind and I walked home across the golf course which looked like a sea of glittering ground diamonds. Lots of people walk there so there a kind of path of compacted snow which is pretty firm to walk on but if you stray from the path then one ends up knee or even thigh deep in powdery snow. It happened a few times which made me giggle out loud. So it was all rather beautiful but the cold was biting into the fronts of my thighs which, by the time I got home, felt like a thousand needles pricks. I have do it all over again this afternoon…
