Layers of Lace November 17, 2010 11:21

I have always loved the look of lace over colourful fabric. I remember one of the first garments I ever made was a tight mini dress made from black lace over raspberry satin. I was 16, it was the middle of the 80's and I was a goth which hopefully goes some way towards explaining it. However, things have come a long way since then and recently I've been having lots of fun with lace. I've discovered the magic of layering lots of different and unexpected see through fabrics like lace and chiffon on top of each other.

Here's an example of just 3 layers but sometimes I can use as many as 5 or 6 different fabrics overlaid to get really interesting effects.

This is made from an acid bright multi coloured satin with a layer of metallic gold lace then a top layer of lichen green patterned chiffon.
